CBD Vape Juice – Spectrum Types

CBD is one of the most popular compounds in the health and wellness community, but despite its popularity, there is still a varying degree of confusion amongst the general public in regards to the different forms of hemp extract. When it comes to new CBD e-liquid first-time users might be overwhelmed in trying to understand what’s available to them. But not to worry, we are here to help!

There are three basic forms of hemp extract: broad-spectrum, full-spectrum, and CBD isolate. While there are a multitude of different formulations on the market, these are the basics and by far the most common and it is important to understand the differences between them so you can make an educated decision as to which one might be best for you.

A good way to think about it is to imagine full spectrum CBD as a jar full of jelly beans. Each one of these jelly beans represents a compound and fits into the category of cannabidiol, terpenes, THC, and amino acids. Full-spectrum CBD vape juice contains all of these beneficial compounds and is great for anyone who wants to enjoy the full range of beneficial compounds from the hemp plant.

Well, what if some of those jelly beans are your favorites and you only want those. All of the THC “jelly beans” can be pulled out of the jar if that’s your preference. Broad-spectrum CBD contains cannabidiol, terpenes, and amino acids, but does not contain trace amounts of THC like full-spectrum CBD does.

If you really love one flavor of “jelly bean” and want nothing else in your “jar”, there is a solution for that as well. CBD isolates exclude any of the terpenes, and THC and offer a CBD that is 99.9% pure cannabidiol.

What is CBD Vape Oil?

CBD vape oil is a highly effective way to enjoy all the benefits the cannabis plant has to offer. If you aren’t familiar with vaping or how to use CBD vape oil, we’ve got you covered!

Luckily, CBD vapes are pretty easy to understand. Vaping is when oil made of hemp extract, propylene glycol, and special flavorings is atomized and turned into a vapor. This vapor is then inhaled by the user. Vaping has become one of the most popular ways to access the benefits of CBD.

Different methods of use allow CBD to absorb into the body at different rates. Some products, including vapes, offer rapid bioavailability. This is a big bonus for those who need fast access to CBD.

Everyone uses CBD for something different. Some people use it for specific ailments and others use it to stay on top of their general wellness. People who use CBD for things like pain need relief fast. CBD vapes are perfect for this situation. They are discreet, easy to use and provide rapid bioavailability. When you use vape oil, the effects are powerful and fast-acting.

Manufacturers each have their own ways of manufacturing vape juice. While flavor profiles and manufacturing techniques may differ, there are some things that most CBD vape oils have in common.

Hemp extract alone doesn’t work very well in a vaporizer. To remedy this problem manufacturers mix their extract with vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol. This blend is perfectly suited for the atomizers in vape pens and high-quality vape devices.

Vaping CBD e-liquid

Vaping CBD e-liquid is an experience unlike any other. Not only do you get to enjoy all of the benefits associated with using high-grade CBD, but you also get to treat yourself to some truly amazing flavors. We know how important it is to maintain the freedom of choice and offer a massive selection of different eliquid flavors and potencies to perfectly fit the needs and desires of the individual.

One of the best parts about vaping CBD is that it is one of the fastest possible ways for you to access its effects. When you vape CBD, you get to “skip the line” so to speak, because these valuable compounds don’t have to be processed through the harsh environment that is the human digestive system. When you want your CBD to be rapidly bioavailable, there is no better choice than one of these delicious CBD ejuices.

CBD Vape Juice Reviews

It is easy to get excited when first hearing about a CBD product or brand you are interested in buying, but pulling out your wallet at first glance isn’t always the best idea. Checking out some customer reviews is one of the most important things you can do when you want to try a new product. CBD manufacturers are limited by strict FDA regulations that prevent them from making specific claims about the benefits or effects of their products. The manufacturer is also going to tell you whatever they can to sell their product.

At CBD.co, we want our customers to make informed decisions that lead to their happiness and satisfaction, so we highly recommend that you spend some time checking out the customer reviews section on our website. Reviews written from everyday people who have experience with a specific product are highly valuable. They can give you a detailed insight into the effects of a CBD oil eliquid without restriction, and provide a level of honesty that cannot be matched by any manufacturer due to the fundamental nature of business.

Can I Use CBD Oil In My Vape?

Using eliquid in vapes is one of the most common methods of CBD use and provides a myriad of benefits. Not all CBD oil is made for vaping. Fortunately, there are plenty of products like Koi CBD eliquid that make this delightful endeavor highly accessible. These products are designed to be universal and work in just about any vape rig.

Whether you are interested in treating yourself to some Koi CBD, or you’ve been eyeing the Naked 100 1200mg CBD vape eliquid, you can rest assured that they will more than likely work in your vape rig. If you have any doubt, simply compare the specifications of your vape rig to those of the product you’re interested in.

Some vape devices require specific accessories. Your vape might take a 501 or 808 threaded cartridge. Maybe it is “pod” compatible or requires another type of pop-in cartridge. It is important to make sure that you have the right type of vape accessories or your device won’t function properly.

Vape devices are also optimized for different types of oil. Some vapes are meant specifically for nicotine. Others are made for marijuana concentrates. All of the fantastic vape juices we sell at CBD.co are made with hemp extract and designed specifically for CBD vape devices. If you’re looking for top-tier vape products from the brands you know and love, CBD.co is the place to go!

A Fast Way to Access Cannabinoids

When you want fast-acting CBD, these products are an excellent choice. When it comes to CBD, everyone has their preferences. Some people love gummies and tinctures, and some people are vapers. A lot of people alternate between methods almost daily.

There’s an endless number of uses for CBD. Some people use it when they can’t seem to get a good night’s sleep and others use it to help with general well being. Some people need to access the benefits fast. Others are fine giving it some time to soak in.

For those who need to have beneficial cannabinoids on-demand at a moment’s notice, there’s no better choice than a hearty puff from a powerful vape. These products are not at all psychoactive. Which means you can enjoy the power of cannabis without any of the hazy side effects of THC. If you’re looking for fast relief, you need to check out some vape oils! Disclaimer: these products are insanely delicious and may contain such delicious flavors as Dragon Fruit, or Juicy Watermelon.

Vape Juice vs Tincture Oil

There are a ton of different ways to enjoy CBD, but the two most popular are undoubtedly tinctures and vapes. Most CBD users have a primary method of use. Some people stick to CBD oil and others turn to CBD vape juice. Gummies and other edibles are often enjoyed between servings of CBD.

Edibles are a great way to keep your CBD lasting throughout the day, but when you need to feel your CBD fast, vapes are the way to go.

Both vapes and oils have their own unique benefits. If you were to give a star rating to the effectiveness of oils and vapes, they’d both be 5-star products. They both provide a bounty of beneficial cannabinoids, are incredibly easy to use, and are both remarkably effective products. Each of these products is hugely popular and we don’t think one is necessarily better than the other. Let’s take a look at how these two CBD titans stack up against each other.

Oils have the advantage of being bioavailable for a comparatively long period of time. When you ingest CBD it tends to take a while to absorb into the body, but it keeps working its magic for hours. One of the complaints people have about oils is that they can be a real mess. If you spill a CBD container full of oil, you better be ready to commit to some clean-up time.

Vapers know the many advantages to this method of use. They know that when they vape CBD the effects will almost be instant. This isn’t the only advantage. Vaping CBD is a great way to get your daily cannabidiol on the go. Vape pens are perfectly portable and can be taken with you just about anywhere. Whether you’re out the door to a business meeting, or rushing to catch a flight, you can depend on the vape in your pocket to help you stay at your best!

You can easily enjoy a puff or two from the vape when you’re waiting on the bus, or trying to keep your cool in traffic (as long as you’re the passenger). When you vape CBD you allow your body a hearty dose of compounds that are free of harsh pesticides and other chemicals.

Vape cartridges are another great way to make this process even easier. When people first get into vapes they tend to stick with products that look like familiar e-cigarettes. While these disposable vape pens are great, they don’t offer the same premium feel as a high-quality vape device.

Oils and vape juices differ in a handful of ways. They are blended with different types of carrier oils, they are consumed in different ways, and they become bioavailable at very different rates. These are the two titans of CBD and they each have their own set of advantages and disadvantages. When it comes down to it, one isn’t really better than the other. It all depends on your personal preference.

How to Use CBD Additives

CBD additives are a great option for those creative-types who like to craft their own flavor profiles. CBD vape additives give you the option to add some pineapple express into the mix. Or maybe you love the flavor of fruit and want your vape juice to taste more like blue raspberry. If you can’t find the flavor you’re looking for, you can always make it yourself with vape additives.

These products are a fantastic way to unleash your inner CBD connoisseur. Maybe you already have a favorite vape oil, but feel it could use a little more of something. Does it need a creamy flavor to help balance it out? Or maybe a dash of fruity terpenes will do the trick! That’s the fun part about these products- It’s completely up to you!

Will CBD Show Up on a Drug Test?

One of the really great things about CBD is that it’s non-psychoactive. But, does that mean it wont show up on a drug test? Millions of people in the United States are subject to regular drug tests. There are athletes, teachers, and a ton of other professionals who love CBD but aren’t sure whether or not it will show up if they get tested.

Unfortunately, there isn’t really a clear answer to this question. CBD absorbs into people bodys in different ways. Some people absorb and process CBD rapidly and have a lower chance of falsely failing the test. Others have a very slow metabolism and their bodies hold onto cannabinoids for up to a month at a time.

Modern drug testing hasn’t been able to keep up with the booming popularity of CBD. These tests normally check for any of the compounds present in cannabis. They don’t distinguish between industrial hemp and marijuana, nor do they distinguish between CBD and THC.

If you’re concerned about being tested for drugs, we recommend speaking to your primary physician before engaging in the use of CBD. They will be able to provide you with more accurate information and help guide you in your decision as to whether or not CBD use will conflict with your work.

Vaporizers vs CBD Gummies

If you’re a fan of CBD, then it’s pretty safe to assume that you indulge in a relaxing gummy on the occasion. Most CBD users do. These products are delicious, effective, and provide a great midday pick-me-up. They are portable like vape cartridges and devices, but they have two disadvantages in comparison to vapes.

First of all, gummies are tiny. No matter how much CBD a manufacturer might want to stuff into these products, there is a limit. This doesn’t mean that their in-effective, it simply means that you will need to take a look at how much CBD is in each serving and you might want to eat a few to get your full serving.

One of the big advantages of using a CBD vape is being able to puff freely without worrying about the calories stacking up. Vapes also provide the fastest onset of effects out of anyCBD product. This means that if you’re looking for quick relief, CBD vapes are going to be a much better option than edibles.

What to Look for in CBD Vape Oil

When you want top-tier vape oil, there are a few important things to look for. All vape oils are made in slightly different ways. Some have different blends of vegetable glycerin and the flavor profiles are always pretty unique. That being said, the absolute best vape oils consistently have a few things in common.

Organically Grown Hemp

The hemp that the CBD is extracted from is the most important ingredient of all. The quality of hemp used for extraction can make or break a product. A brand can do everything right, but if they cut corners when it comes to hemp, their products will suffer greatly.

This is why it’s important to look for products made with organically grown hemp. CBDfx is an immensely popular brand and a fantastic example of a company that uses top-tier organically grown hemp to formulate their products. If you want some truly premium vape oil, checkout the impressive products from CBDfx!

CO2 Extracted

Extracting CBD from hemp is another incredibly important part of the manufacturing process. A lot of companies use solvents like Ethanol or Butane. Unfortunately, these chemicals can leave trace amounts of residue in the vape oil. While these products are still considered safe for use, having chemicals in your vape juice is not ideal.

All of the finest vape oils on the market are made with CO2 extracted CBD. Supercritical CO2 is a highly efficient way to extract CBD. It captures a full range of compounds and doesn’t leave any sort of residue. At extreme temperatures and pressures, CO2 acts like a solvent. It separates all of the desirable compounds from the raw industrial hemp and safely transfers them to the resulting extract oil.

When you want the cleanest, most powerful vape oil, look for products crafted with CO2 extracted CBD!

Third-Party Tested

Safety is the most important part of any product. It doesn’t matter if it’s edibles, topicals, or vapes, all CBD products need to be tested at third-party labs. Not only is this required by the food and drug administration, it’s how consumers know a product is safe.

All of the vape products we carry at CBD.co have been thoroughly tested at ISO certified third-party labs. This ensures that they don’t contain any heavy metals, harsh pesticides, or contaminants of any kind.

The Best CBD Vape Pen Cartridges

Our CBD vape products are truly full-spectrum, containing live resin/terpenes that have been extracted from fresh frozen cannabis flowers, with a legal micro-dose of THC. This is why our vape products have the best flavor and effects compared to other brands; they are accurate to the plant’s essence and authentically cannabis. We never use any fake flavorings or artificial ingredients to try and cut or mask our oil, which is a common practice in the industry. 100% organic and disposable after use, our vapes are unrivaled in the feelings and benefits they provide.

Real Spectrum

It’s more about the extraction method and the ideal spectrum/ratio of cannabinoids and terpenes, not potency. After years of experience, we found that the best flavor, effects, and user experience came from oil that was 100% cannabis-derived, containing the plant’s natural spectrum. Most CBD vapes on the market are made up of an artificial combination of isolates, fake terpenes and flavorings, and MCT oil (or other cutting agents) and are not true to how the plant is found in nature. These products produce undesirable effects when compared to vapes that capture the genuine profile of the cannabis plant. Our vapes contain the most comprehensive array of beneficial cannabinoids, including CBD, CBDV, CBDVA, CBG, CBN, CBC, THC, and over 17 cannabis-derived terpenes like myrcene, limonene, caryophyllene, pinene, linalool, geraniol, and more.

Frequently Asked Questions

By default, no, but you can add a battery & charger separately to any vape cart order. This helps reduce waste for those who already have batteries. A CBD vape pen usually contains a battery (pen), while a cartridge is simply the hardware that houses the extract and requires attaching a battery for use.

Although there is no absolute answer to this question since every individual is different, we recommend taking multiple 2-4 second draws and waiting 5 minutes to gauge the effects when vaping any type of CBD or cannabis oil. We believe the best way to use CBD vape cartridges is to draw on the device until you feel the desired effects and then wait until the effects wear off and continue use as needed. Based on user reviews and calculations, anywhere from 10-20mg of CBD and other cannabinoids/terpenes are ingested when taking multiple 2-4 second draws of our CBD live-resin vape.

CBD oil is vaporized by heating it to a degree where all the beneficial compounds are released without combusting the oil and turning it into smoke. The best way to vape CBD oil is to use our pre-set cartridges and batteries, specifically designed to vaporize CBD oil to the optimal temperature for a smooth inhalation. Most cannabis vaporizer devices are calibrated explicitly for cannabis oils only (THC and CBD oils) so try to avoid standard electronic cigarettes used for nicotine products/vape juice, as those devices will not provide the best user experience.

CBD vape will usually provide a much quicker and more potent effect and is associated with stronger feelings of relaxation and euphoria when compared to CBD capsules, tinctures, gummy’s, or anything ingested orally. This is because vaporization allows the CBD to enter the bloodstream instantly and avoid being diluted by the digestive tract, which can significantly reduce the effectiveness of CBD products. CBD flower and vape are actually the most efficient and effective ways to consume CBD and other cannabinoids.

After years of trial and error, we settled on true full-spectrum vape cart formula with about 60% CBD and a large number of minor cannabinoids. We believe this ratio provides the smoothest and most balanced, beneficial effects. Our live resin oil contains about 3-8% of actual cannabis-derived terpenes, enhancing flavor and contributing to the entourage effect, which gives the user an authentic cannabis experience and genuine relief.

A cartridge is sold without a battery attached or included, usually for someone who already owns a battery. A disposable comes connected to a battery as a single, inseparable unit. Some disposables are rechargeable, but most are not and must be discarded after the battery dies.

This means that as soon as we harvest cannabis plants, we flash freeze them to preserve the terpenes and resins in their fresh state, as they were when the plant was alive. This makes our product genuinely taste like cannabis, giving a more pronounced flavor, aroma, and effect. Live resin has quickly become to most preferred extract in most cannabis markets due to these desirable traits.

Although it is not required, we highly recommend using our branded battery with your cartridge. These batteries are designed explicitly for our cartridges and oil, meant to be used at low and high-temperature settings depending on user preference. Using other batteries may not provide the best results and experience.

The duration of a CBD vape cartridge depends entirely on cartridge size, user, and how much they consume. Usually, a 700MG cartridge can provide 200+ draws or doses, at about 2-4 seconds per draw. The average lifespan based on user feedback and reviews from our customers seems to be about 2 weeks with consistent daily use. Still, some users report cartridges lasting up to a month or longer.

Crystallization simply means a cartridge is too potent and has to-high a percentage of CBD. Most CBD oils will naturally crystalize at concentrations above 60%. Our oil is extracted to a precise potency and ratio, remaining in its natural liquid state. Overall, there is nothing wrong or unsafe with crystallization. Still, it does make a cartridge harder to use. It can be frustrating for the consumer, requiring an extended heating period to constantly liquefy the CBD with every use for adequate vaping. Higher strengths can also result in a harsher and more irritating experience for your throat, i.e., not a smooth hit.

We recommend using a cartridge within 8-12 weeks of purchase for the best flavor and results; the sooner, the better. Technically cartridges can remain suitable for up to a year or more if stored correctly but will slowly degrade over time and turn darker due to oxygen exposure. For best results, keep your cartridge in a cool dark place, preferably air-tight and free from excessive moisture.

Like smoking good CBD flower, vaping CBD oil provides users with quicker and more substantial effects, but more discreetly due to the lack of actual combustion/smoke. CBD vape pens also contain higher levels of terpenes and cannabinoids when compared to flowers due to them being a concentrated form of the flower. CBD vapes are also slightly easier to consume because they produce vapor and not smoke, which is less harsh on the throat and lungs. They are also much easier to transport and offer more discretion than flower products.

Related Picks: Best CBD Cartridges

Vaping CBD might not be as popular as using CBD oil as a tincture, but there are some awesome CBD vape juice brands out there looking to change things. Good CBD e-juice packs as much of a punch as a tincture and combines the pleasant effects of CBD with delicious, vape-style flavors or natural terpenes. But if you end up with a bad one, you might not feel the effects as much as you want and the flavor might not be what you expected based on the name. The good news is that there is enough competition in the area that if you spend some time looking for the best CBD vape juice, you’ll undoubtedly get something great.

How we tested the CBD e-liquids: To put together this list, we’ve tested out the most well-known and widely-loved CBD e-juice brands out there and ranked them based on their flavor, effects and other important factors like price and whether they have lab reports to back up things like the potency. We started from a list of over 30 popular CBD e-liquids, and whittled the list down to 15 options, which we re-tested extensively to come up with these unbiased recommendations. So here are our picks. (See how we test.)

8 Best CBD Vape Juice Brands

Our picks aren’t some definitive “best CBD e-juice” list: people are looking for different things from their CBD e-liquid and our system reflects that. Each juice on the list earns their spot for a specific reason:

Best Overall: CBDfx $39.99
Strongest: Just CBD $12
Best Value: Savage CBD $15.99
Best For Anxiety: Plain Jane $29.99
Best Full Spectrum: Funky Farms $8.99
Best THC-Free: Koi CBD $19.99
Best PG-Free: Blue Moon Hemp $49
Best Tasting: Erth $19.99

Best Overall: CBDfx

CBDfx is one of the most widely-recommended CBD brands regardless of the type of product, and their CBD e-juice is no exception. The brand offers nine flavors: five with a more vape-like flavor and the remaining four using terpenes to produce an authentic hemp flavor. Our specific pick is the Blue Raspberry, which has more of a vape-like flavor but it hits the intended notes extremely well, and the 500 mg CBD version (at 16.7 mg/ml) does a really good job when it comes to effects. I vaped it through the day and it provided a pleasant undercurrent of calm that allowed me to get by stress-free.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • CBD isolate based e-liquids
  • Use high quality food-grade ingredients
  • Excellent flavor
  • Calming, chilled effects
  • Either terpene or vape style flavors
  • 50/50 PG/VG mix works in most tanks
  • 500, 1,000 or 2,000 mg of CBD per 30 ml bottle (16.7, 33.3 or 66.7 mg/ml) look clean – fully tested for pesticides, solvents, heavy metals, and mycotoxins : A+

Cons

  • Price isn’t expensive but higher than others in the list – $0.07 per mg
  • Not good if you want other cannabinoids too
  • Small bottle shape may be difficult to hold for people with a disability

Strongest: Just CBD

The CBD e-juice from Just CBD is the best option out there if you’re looking for the strongest CBD e-liquid. As well as the flavors being delicious, they’re available in 250 mg (4.2 mg/ml), 500 mg (8.3 mg/ml), 1,000 mg (16.7 mg/ml), 1,500 mg (25 mg/ml) and 3,000 mg (50 mg/ml) strengths. The 3,000 mg is a great option if you want to minimize your vaping or if you need to use a lot of CBD for things like sleep and anxiety. Blue Dream is a blueberry flavor that gets the authentic flavor across, while having a calming yet focusing effect.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Plenty of options for CBD strength (up to 50 mg/ml)
  • Eight flavors to choose from
  • Excellent price – $0.02 per mg of CBD
  • Delicious, well-executed flavors
  • Calming effect, also helped with focus at 4.2 mg/ml
  • 20/80 PG/VG ratio
  • Lab reports/COAs available
  • No THC
  • 60 ml bottles – lasts longer than most

  • Lab reports don’t test for pesticides and heavy metals

Best Value: Savage CBD

If you’re looking for cheap CBD vape juice, there are quite a few options out there (including Just CBD), but our pick is Savage CBD. The juice works out at just $0.02 per mg of CBD (although there is technically a “sale” on, it seems to be permanent). For such a good price, you might be expecting a disappointing e-juice, but it’s fantastic. The flavors are well captured – Passion in particular – and the higher strength especially hits hard in terms of effects. You feel it straight away and are left with a powerful sense of calm that you just have to top up through the day.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Seven excellent flavors to choose from
  • 250, 500 or 1,000 mg of CBD per 30 ml (8.3, 16.6 or 33.3 mg/ml)
  • Hard to beat price of $0.02 per mg
  • Well-captured flavors
  • 30 ml bottles with glass dropper
  • Powerful, calming effect from 33.3 mg/ml
  • Great for anxiety
  • Full lab reports/COAs available

Cons

  • Only vape-like flavors available – no terpenes
  • No other cannabinoids present
  • Don’t state PG/VG ratio

Best for Anxiety: Plain Jane

Although most CBD is good for anxiety – because relaxation is one of the main effects – some do a better job than others. Plain Jane gets our pick for best CBD vape juice for anxiety, and it’s pretty affordable too at just $0.03 per mg of CBD. They have four flavors available – Strawberry Cheesecake, Tropical, Blue Razz and Green Apple – which are all vape-style but executed really well. Blue Razz is our pick, but Strawberry Cheesecake is also excellent. They all have 1,000 mg of CBD in a 30 ml bottle (33.3 mg/ml strength), which works really well if you’re also looking for a strong CBD e-juice. Soon after vaping you’re hit with the calming effect and it sticks with you for hours.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Excellent price $29.99 per bottle/$0.03 per mg
  • 1000 mg CBD per bottle (33.3 mg/ml)
  • Four delicious flavors to choose from
  • Long-lasting calming effect
  • Smooth vape with no burn
  • THC free
  • Lab reports/COAs available

Cons

  • Only tested for potency and residual solvents
  • Lab report on site shows inaccurate CBD labeling
  • No choice of strength

Best Full Spectrum: Funky Farms

Although it’s difficult to find full spectrum CBD vape juice, there is a fantastic broad spectrum option from Funky Farms. They offer two flavors – Blueberry Gelato or Peach Tangie – in either 250 or 500 mg for the 15 ml bottle (16.7 or 33.3 mg per ml), with some CBC and CBN in the mix too. The amounts are smaller than you’ll find in some cartridges, but it’s still enough to differentiate it from the CBD-only options. The effects are soothing, leaving you feeling relaxed and content, and the Blueberry Gelato especially is delicious.

Update: Funky Farms CBD juices are currently out of stock, though they have a number of CBD pens and cartridges available instead.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Broad-spectrum extraction
  • CBC and CBN as well as CBD

Best THC-Free: Koi

Most CBD vape juice is THC-free, but Koi CBD has one of the best examples you can find. They offer six excellent flavors that can still really pack a punch in terms of effects. Our pick is Blue Raspberry Dragon Fruit, but Vanilla Caramel Custard is also delicious. The effects depend a lot on your chosen strength (with options of 8.3 mg/ml, 16.7 mg/ml or 33.3 mg/ml), but for the lowest strength they were quite mild but definitely calming as I vaped through the day. The flavor has a fruity sharpness that works really nicely as a CBD vape juice flavor.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • CBD isolate vape juice
  • Excellent flavors
  • Three strengths 250 mg (8.3 mg/ml), 500 mg (16.7 mg/ml) and 1,000 mg (33.3 mg/ml)
  • Calming effect
  • Pretty good price ($0.05 per mg)
  • Full lab reports/COAs available
  • THC level less than 0.001%
  • Store lists CBD content in mg/ml

Cons

  • No listing of PG/VG ratio
  • No other cannabinoids
  • No terpenes in the flavors

Best PG-Free: Blue Moon Hemp

If you’re looking for a PG-free CBD vape juice, there aren’t many options. The problem is that you need PG to dissolve CBD isolate, so the best you can do is something with low PG. Blue Moon Hemp have met this need perfectly: combining 70% VG with a corn-derived version of PG at 30%. They offer five different flavors, including two hemp options (Pure and Kush) and three vape-style flavors (RedDevil, Flan and Mango Moon). Kush earns our pick, for both the authentic flavor and the 33.3 mg/ml potency. The effects hit quickly and are ideal for easing anxiety and even helping with pain.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • As close to PG-free as you can get without MCT
  • Both terpene-derived and vape-like flavors available
  • Well-captured flavors
  • Strong, calming effect
  • 1,000 mg of CBD per 30 ml (33.3 mg/ml)
  • Decent price of $0.05 / mg
  • THC free, but other cannabinoids included
  • Lab reports/COAs available
  • Bottles labeled with CBD strength in mg/ml

Cons

  • “Broad spectrum” technically but the amounts are very low
  • No choice of strength
  • Only tested for potency – no safety checks

Best Tasting: Erth

Erth originally got started by offering CBD tinctures and edibles, but after branching out into CBD e-liquid they quickly became one of the best CBD vape oil brands for flavor. Juicy Watermelon is the perfect example of this, combining two complementary fruits to produce something simple but realistic and delicious. It either comes in 500 mg (16.7 mg/ml) or 1,000 mg (33.4 mg/ml) of CBD, which isn’t as strong as some, but it still offers a strong enough effect to keep you relaxed through the day. The flavor is the biggest selling-point though – it really can’t be beat.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Excellent flavor
  • 500 mg (16.7 mg/ml) and 1000 mg (33.4 mg/ml) strengths
  • Good price of $0.04 per mg
  • Gentle, calming effect
  • CBD isolate (no THC)
  • 30 ml bottles
  • Lab report/COAs available (view COA)
  • 30 day money-back guarantee
  • Offers a 3.7mL sample so you can try out different flavors

Cons

  • Not too strong – a 1,000 mg option would be good
  • No other cannabinoids
  • Doesn’t specify PG/VG ratio
  • Not tested for safety, just potency

How We Tested the CBD E-Liquids

Once we’d settled on a shortlist of fifteen different CBD e-liquids, we got a bottle of each and put them to the vape test. Photo: CBD Oracle

Testing makes or breaks a list like this. While some CBD vape juice flavors might look good on paper, the reality of the situation is sometimes different. Maybe the flavor doesn’t come through as much as you were expecting, maybe the balance of components is off, and maybe the CBD doesn’t have as much impact as the strength suggests it should. That’s why the choices on this list were based on extensive, unbiased first-hand testing.

We independently tested over fifteen CBD vape juice products to recommend the best options available. Photo: CBD Oracle

After putting together a big list of the options that are out there, especially the most recommended options, we set about comparing them. This includes taking into account the mg/ml of CBD, the cost per mg of CBD, and a general investigation into how transparent the company is with things like lab reports.

Once we’d settled on a shortlist of 15 different CBD e-liquids, we got a bottle of each and put them to the vape test. After spending at least a day vaping each, we eventually settled on the finalists. Most of the testing was done on the same tank – a sub ohm vape tank – but we also had a pod system on hand for the ones we could confirm were 50/50 PG/VG. Guide to Buying the Best CBD E-Juice

If you’re interested in picking up some CBD vape juice but might want to go beyond the options above, learning the basics about choosing good CBD e-juice is a crucial step. In particular, it’s good to know what to look for and what to avoid when you’re shopping, how long a bottle is likely to last and how to work out things like the strength you’ll need. Luckily, this is all quite straightforward once you’ve covered the basics.

What to Look For

  • Total CBD: One of the most important things to establish is the total amount of CBD in the e-liquid. This tells you how much you get in each ml of e-juice (simply divide the total by the number of ml in the bottle). If you know roughly how much CBD you need per day, you can use this as a basis for your calculations.
  • PG/VG ratio: The amount of VG to PG is an important thing to check. Generally, higher PG levels will work better with simpler tank systems, and carry flavor better, but they can be harsher on your throat. Higher VG makes smoother vapor and bigger clouds, but thickens the mixture, so you’ll need a sub ohm tank or similar to vape it well.
  • CBD isolate?Broad spectrum? Most CBD vape juice is what’s known as “isolate.” This just means that the only thing you get is CBD, with no extra cannabinoids in the mix. “Broad-spectrum” extractions include other cannabinoids too. Generally the amounts of these are lower than the amount of CBD, but the others complement the CBD through the “entourage effect.” Isolate is good, but if you want more than just CBD, broad spectrum is a great choice. THC is also included in “full spectrum” extractions.
  • Terpenes or other flavors: Although terpene-flavored CBD vape juices aren’t as common as you might expect, there are options that produce a cannabis or hemp-like flavor by incorporating them. If you want something more “flavored” – tasting like fruits, desserts or anything like that – you should go for a non-terpene CBD e-juice.
  • Source of the hemp: After the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, farmers in the US have to follow safety guidelines when producing their hemp. This makes US-grown hemp a great option, but other options (like European) are also good. The main thing is that you should be able to find out easily – if you can’t see where it’s from, choose another juice.
  • Lab reports/COAs: The company you buy from should have lab reports available to check. While testing for cannabinoids to ensure purity and labeling accuracy is good, the best reports also include safety tests (for things like residual solvents or pesticides).
  • Reputation: It’s best to check around online before you buy CBD vape juice from a company. Ideally, choose a company with a good reputation, including both positive reviews of the product and positive things about the company themselves. If a company has a lot of people complaining, there is probably a reason behind it.

Things to Avoid

  • MCT or other oils: CBD vape “oil” is a misnomer. You should never vape actual oil, because it can lead to lung issues or even conditions like lipoid pneumonia. So your CBD vape juice shouldn’t contain MCT, coconut oil or any other oils or fats. PG and VG aren’t perfect, but they don’t lead to this type of issue when inhaled.
  • Unknown companies: A company nobody has heard of might be a hidden gem, but they probably aren’t. If you can’t find much about them online, you’d be better off choosing a company with a good track record.
  • No lab report/COA: If there’s no lab report, you can’t confirm that what you’re buying is what they’re claiming, and so any company without them should be avoided.

Can You Vape CBD Oil?

CBD Oil and CBD Vape Juice are two different things. If you want to vape, make sure to get “CBD Vape Juice” and not “CBD Oil”. Photo: Koi

CBD oil – meaning, a tincture of CBD – is not intended for vaping. CBD vape juice usually contains VG (vegetable glycerin) and PG (propylene glycol), because these are easy to vaporize and assumed to be reasonably safe to inhale.

The key difference is that CBD oil uses oil or fats as a carrier for the CBD. If you inhale something with fats and oils, it can cause lipoid pneumonia and other lung issues. In short, the long-chained molecules get caught up in the networks of your airways and cause trouble, especially as they accumulate. Although some companies may use coconut oil or MCT in a CBD e-juice, you should not use them – unfortunately the companies aren’t always well-informed.

So for CBD oil vs. CBD vape juice, there are key characteristics of each:

CBD Oil
  • Is intended for sublingual (under the tongue) or oral use
  • Contains MCT, coconut oil or usually other fats/oils
  • Is not suitable to inhale
  • Often has a hemp-like flavor from terpenes
CBD Vape Juice
  • Uses PG and VG
  • Doesn’t contain any fats, just the carriers, CBD and flavors
  • No major issues for inhalation
  • Usually flavored like fruit or dessert
  • Can also be used as a tincture (although it isn’t usually that pleasant)

How Does CBD Vape Juice Make You Feel?

CBD vape juice can have varying effects, depending on the dose, if there are other cannabinoids present and your personal reaction to CBD. That said, if you have some CBD e-liquid, it will probably just contain CBD and the most common effects are:

  • Relaxation
  • Comfort
  • Reduced anxiety and stress
  • Pain relief
  • Mood improvement
  • Tiredness/sleepiness (in high doses)
  • Alertness (in low doses)

Of course, this is just a list of generic effects – your subjective experience of it may differ. For example, the most notable effect for me is the relaxation, like an undercurrent of calm sticking with me after vaping. But if you’re experiencing pain, for example, the pain relief will probably be the biggest difference you notice.

How Long Does CBD Vape Juice Last in Your System?

You might be wondering about two (related) things here: how long do the effects of CBD vape juice last, and how long will the CBD be detectable in my system?

The effects of CBD last for between one and six hours, depending on the dose you take, your specific physiology and the method you used to consume it. Vaping is generally faster-acting and quicker to end, so you can expect to feel the effects within ten minutes (as little as a few minutes) and it to last for a few hours.

For how long it will be detectable in your system, Vaping360 points out the differences between half lives between oral use (a tincture or capsule, say) and for inhaled aerosols. Research suggests that the half life for aerosols is about an hour and a half (technically between 1 and 2.4 hours), and it takes 5.5 half lives for something to clear your system. This means it takes between 6 and 12 hours for CBD to completely leave your system. However, this could easily be longer if you consume regularly or large amounts.

How Much CBD Can You Vape Per Day?

There are again two separate issues here: firstly, what’s the recommended daily dosage of CBD, and secondly, how much can you vape safely?

In theory, you can vape at least up to 1,500 mg of CBD per day without issues. The number for you might be higher than this, or you might start to get some unpleasant symptoms at much lower doses than this. The most common symptoms of taking too much CBD are dry mouth, nausea, stomach issues like diarrhea, drowsiness and disorientation or dizziness.

This isn’t really likely to happen though. Firstly – and most importantly – any generally recommended dose of CBD will be much lower than this. Most people start on between 20 and 40 mg per day, and increase gradually from there as needed. Secondly, actually vaping that much CBD per day would be a challenge: you would have to get through a bottle and a half of 1,000 mg e-liquid, likely about 90 ml of CBD e-juice.

How Much CBD E-Liquid Should You Take Per Day?

The above recommendation of 20 to 40 mg per day to start is good. Then increase as needed if you feel you need more after a week. Use your own judgment, but it’s better to increase slowly if you’re going above 40 mg – by 5 mg a week or so.

This does vary, though, depending on your metabolism, the condition you’re treating and tons of other factors. If you have anxiety or sleep issues, for instance, a higher dose has been shown to be effective, but there isn’t enough evidence to settle on a precise number. Most real-life CBD surveys show that higher daily doses are fairly rare: in one example, 55% of CBD users took less than 50 mg per day.

What Strength CBD Vape Juice Should I Get?

Choosing a CBD e-juice strength seems like it would be pretty straightforward, but you need to take bottle size into account. Unfortunately, most CBD vape juice sellers list the total amount in the bottle without a breakdown in terms of mg per ml or a percentage. Simply put: a 1000 mg bottle of CBD e-liquid means 33.3 mg/ml if it’s a 30 ml bottle and 16.6 mg/ml if it’s a 60 ml bottle.

You need to think about this and how much you want to actually vape each day to make your decision. For a 30 mg daily dose, the 1000 mg in a 30 ml bottle option would basically mean vaping 1 ml per day. For the 60 ml bottle it would take 2 ml to get the same dose.

Practically, you can base this decision on the size of your tank. If you have a 2 ml tank, getting a 1000 mg / 60 ml is OK, because you can get a reasonable dose if you get through a tank a day. But if you want to vape less – which is a good idea, strictly speaking – you could go to 1000 mg / 30 ml (or, equivalently, 2000 mg / 60 ml) to get the same amount of CBD from half a tank.

Generally, for a 30 ml bottle, up to 300 mg can be considered low potency, up to 600 mg as average potency and 1,000 mg or more a high potency.

Are There Any CBD Vape Juices With Nicotine?

Despite both nicotine and CBD e-liquid being very common and easy to find, there aren’t really commercially-available hemp vape juice that combine the two. However, you can certainly do this yourself if you want to. Nicotine shots are pretty common in the US/EU, and there’s nothing to stop you from adding one to your CBD e-juice. Some people do recommend against it (since the effects are contrary to each other), but overall there is no strong reason beyond preference to avoid doing it.

Can You Make Your Own CBD Vape Juice at Home?

You can easily make your own DIY CBD vape juice at home, but you’ll need to gather some ingredients first. You’ll need:

  • Propylene glycol (PG)
  • Vegetable glycerin (VG)
  • CBD isolate (≥99% pure)
  • Flavorings (terpene based or vape juice flavors)
  • Blunt-tipped syringe
  • Accurate scale (down to 0.01 or 0.001)
  • 30 ml (or 60 ml) empty bottle

Most of these things can be found at vaping stores online, although you may need to find somewhere else for the scale and the CBD isolate. Isolate is important because you can’t mix oils into something you’ll be vaping.

The process is pretty straightforward:

  • Measure out either 500 or 1000 mg (0.5 to 1 g) of CBD isolate. This depends on the strength you want the final liquid to be.
  • Add 15 ml of PG and mix. CBD isn’t soluble in VG, so you need to mix thoroughly with PG first before combining. You want it to be mixed well enough that you can’t see crystals in the mix anymore.
  • Add 12 ml of VG, mixing well again.
  • Choose whichever flavorings sound good to you and add 3 ml of them to the liquid, before giving it a final mix.

You can adjust most of this to suit your needs. For example, a 50/50 PG/VG mix works quite well, but this means you’d need to add the flavorings (usually PG-based), 12 ml of PG and 15 ml of VG. If you make the VG percentage much higher than that, you might have issues with the CBD dissolving properly, and it won’t work as well with simpler tanks. However, it can work if you have a sub ohm tank or anything with efficient wicking.

Can You Put CBD Tincture in Vape Juice?

CBD tincture is an oil, and so – despite misleading phrases like “CBD vape oil” – you can’t safely vaporize it. This is why in the instructions above you need isolate: pre-made CBD oil will contain something you can’t vape. If you mix the CBD tincture with vape juice, it might technically “work” depending on the precise amounts, but it still isn’t a good idea.

How Much Does CBD Vape Juice Cost?

The cost of CBD vape juice is pretty variable, but you can expect to pay anything from 2 to 10 cents per mg of CBD. In practice, this means that a 500 mg bottle of CBD e-liquid will likely cost about $20, although it could be as high as $50. In most cases, though, when you find CBD vape juice with a higher price per mg, it’s more that the amount of CBD per bottle is low rather than the bottle cost being high.

As an average, 500 mg of CBD in a 30 ml bottle will probably cost around $25 to $30.

Try the CBD has the strongest CBD vape juice (at 200 mg/ml), but this uses MCT oil which may be dangerous to inhale, so CBDfx (66.7 mg/ml) is the best choice.

Funky Farms has the best full spectrum CBD vape juice, offering CBC and CBN in addition to CBD. It’s technically broad spectrum though, since it’s THC-free.

CBD e-juice costs anything from $0.02 to $0.10 per mg of CBD. A 500 mg bottle will likely cost around $25.

Conclusion

CBD vape juice is getting more and more common as people grow to accept CBD, but the sheer volume of competition makes finding a good one more challenging. The good news is that most of the options out there today are pretty good, customers now expect lab reports (and so companies provide them) and juices crop up to meet most preferences. Prices are also impressively low. So with a few recommendations and – most importantly – an understanding of what to look for when you shop, you’ll have tons of excellent options to explore.
