CBD is short for cannabidiol. It is a mighty phytocannabinoid found in hemp and known for supporting body and mind in many ways. CBD specifically comes from the flowers and leaves of the hemp plant. (Not to be confused with oil that comes from hemp seeds, which contain no cannabinoids.) Why it works – The human body has a vast network of receptors, called the endocannabinoid system, which helps us maintain overall wellness and keep many of our physical processes moving in the right direction. CBD fits into the receptors, helping the body complete in its efforts to keep us in good health. Learn more about the Endocannabinoid System.

Neither. Hemp extract contains no THC and CBD oil contains only trace amounts of THC. THC stands for tetrahydrocannabinol, the compound of cannabis that’s responsible for producing marijuana’s “high.”

Both. CBD oil and hemp extract are both safe to apply topically to the skin, and CBD oil is often incorporated into skincare and antiaging products.

Hemp extract is made by extracting oil from raw hemp seeds. CBD oil uses a more complex extraction multi-step process that uses more of the full plant. Hemp oil extraction is simple and relatively inexpensive, whereas CBD oil CO2 extraction takes longer and requires highly specialized equipment and training.

Which one will get me high?

Yes. Both are derived from the cannabis plant but from different parts of that plant. Hemp extract is the oil pressed from raw hemp seeds, whereas CBD oil comes from the flowers, leaves, stems, and stalks of the mature plant.

You can buy hemp extract most anywhere you can find essential oils (because that’s what it really is): natural food stores, some pharmacies and groceries, and online.

CBD oil contains many beneficial cannabinoids, which are lacking in hemp extract.

CBD oil has more to offer than hemp extract and hemp oil requires a more complex and expensive manufacturing process. This is a bit like comparing ground beef to filet mignon – they come from the same place, but the process of obtaining each (and the consumer use) are very different.

Although hemp and marijuana come from the same species of cannabis plant, hemp has little to no THC. This means that consuming hemp is legal in the U.S. and will not cause you to become intoxicated or impaired.

Hemp is increasingly popular as a remedy for a range of conditions including skin issues and stress. It may contain properties that contribute to reduced risks of illnesses like Alzheimer’s disease and cardiovascular disease, though additional research is necessary. Hemp oil may also reduce inflammation in the body.

It’s possible that ingesting CBD-containing oils like hemp oil can cause an upset stomach or diarrhea. Again, when you’re first introducing hemp oil into your diet, start small to see how it impacts you. Reactions may be different from person to person.

In studies, the CBD in hemp oil has been shown to reduce seizures in rare types of childhood epilepsy that are resistant to other treatments, Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. Regularly taking CBD can also reduce the number of seizures brought on by tuberous sclerosis complex, a condition that causes tumors to form throughout the body.

Many of these nutrients provide the body necessary minerals and also contribute to overall health. Note that hemp seeds contain a significant amount of iron (20 % of your recommended daily diet). This helps prevent iron deficiency, or anemia.
